Poetry / No Escape

The hallway stretches on
Forever, it seems
Each word spoken
Echoes back as screams

Lights shine brightly overhead,
Reflected on the floor
There is no trace of darkness here-
Except that under the locked door

It feels as though I am trapped
In an interrogation room
The darkness that was around me, wrapped
Is quickly fading away

There is nowhere to hide-
The luminous lights won’t allow it
And I have no choice but to abide
By the rules they’ve set

They can see right through me-
Right into my very soul
There’s nothing they don’t know
Suddenly I’ve been stripped bare

All my secrets- no longer hidden
And visible too- every word I’ve written
My life is laid out for the world to see-
Here in the hallway that never ends
