Poetry / Dancemagic
Clumsy sixth-grade dancer
Glasses askew and poufy triangular hair everywhere.
(The boys are all shorter than you.)
You stand in the corner
Thinking you are fat and tapping your foot
Playing your violin and dreaming your
Harry Potter dreams
(Yes, the bush-haired know-it-all
Is beautiful with the right spells)
Five years later, the spell is completed
Contacts and conditioned hair
(Shorter than all of the boys)
Cute little dress, same face dressed up with earrings, makeup
Dancing:
Hips, shoulders, smile, dress swishing to the beat
(This must be magic, or God, or something.
No one would believe the pictures.)
Like one of those before-after weight loss picture sets
No one believes.
Except that this
This is the truth!

Enjoyed the images and especially the parenthetical “(Yes, the bush-haired know-it-all Is beautiful with the right spells)”. Transformation is always like magic, and in this poem it is beautiful.

..I don’t know why but it doesn’t seem right. I like some of the visuals you use, but that is about it. I wish I could figure out what is not working, the changing was effective and connected well, but it seems, I guess incomplete.
