Good imagery with all of it, specifically the body floats in the ocean, and mermaids sing. The first paragraph didn't quite capture my interest but the second one drew me in. A little hard to follow. When you started speaking of the applause rains down like water from a showerhead followed by images of a dead body I thought maybe you were writing about a drug overdose and the delirium just before returning to consciousness.
