Hi, my name is Doug. I hail from Rochester, New York where I enjoy life with my four beautiful children, and gorgeous wife. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. My earliest experience of writing came at a very young age when I was entered in, and won a statewide essay writing contest. I have been bitten by the bug ever since. I have varied styles, and mostly write about things that come from personal life experiences, or current events. Poetry, and works of fiction are my claim to fame. I recently completed my first novel, ”Deceitful Desires” that is currently published by Xlibris. I joined Urbis because I still consider myself a novice, although I’ve been at this for years. I’m looking to discuss my work, would love to kn…

Imagine a world with no tears. Children walkin' the streets with no fear. No driveby's, and drug dealers. Real faith walkers, and healers. No gun totin', or absentee baby daddy's. Real ambitions that go deeper than the latest, or phatest caddy. Education's a priority. Sought by all brothas and sistas, not just the minority. Or the few the proud, not talkin 'bout Marines. Just imagine a world, where beauty isn't found on airbrushed magazines. Imagine, can you? What it would take, to care about ...

Broken promises, shattered dreams. What does it mean if the eyes haven't seen? The eyes haven't seen the despair that you bring. Another broken family, but your words were so trusting. What is a man without his word as collateral? To his woman it's deep, there's nothing more valuable. Instead you run from responsibility and destiny. You planted a seed and uprooted your family. Can't handle the burden, the call to leadership. You're pushed aside, categorized, and looked upon as unfit. Imprison...

I opened my eyes, in a world filled with darkness. Slowly they adjusted, and I visualized the madness. So much sadness, I felt in my spirit. The prophetic word of God, but none chose to hear it. So, I hearkened to his voice, and He said son speak. Now I'm strapped with a mandate, and a fiery speech. Through you my son, many people shall be reached. I've anointed your tongue to poetically teach. Now go my son, only take your sixty-six. Keep one in the chamber, and sixty-five in the clip. This ...

Just gettin' by today, will earn you just enough to do the same tomorrow. Yet,you sit in sorrow when you reminisce on opportunities past. Life on tha corner doesn't last, when jail cells clash, and guns blast. Yeah, you laugh,'cuz to you life's a joke. A nine to five's a short rope, but no worse than being broke. The eyes of the foolish never sees destiny's plan. But a man without one, is a man who can't stand. So you lean towards destruction, and falsify barriers. Take a look on the inside to...

I love how this poem border's on the sad, but brings joy in the fact that a loved one was cherised if only for a short time. I forces the reader to realize that God loans our loved ones to us, and that each day should be lived to the fullest and not taken for granted. Beautifully written!
Very arousing to say the least. Excellent play on words. I love the line, Naked and nothing, now that was such a darkly delicious thought, to be made and rebuilt. I felt like I was there. Brilliant!

Nice! I can feel the hurt, and anguish of a man dealing with a break up, or the loss of someone very dear to him. The spirit of the subject captures most men's inability to openly deal with emotional situations.
Beautifully written. Could use a little more punctuation, but I could feel the passion behind the words. You definitely got your point across.
