For you I would gather my self into knots of string for your sensitive fingers to untangle Then to wrap around you just tight enough to remind you I exist.

Short Story / Mom's Weekend
Version 1
2 Reviews   0 Comments
Mom’s Weekend For Jessi, from Jodie Gavin and Morgan were sitting on the picnic blanket with their tongues sticking out. Gavin’s tongue was turning bright orange. It was orange because, when it’s summer, he loves popsicles. And orange is his favorite. Morgan (that’s Gavin’s sister) was sticking out her tongue and saying, “Look, Gavin! My tongue is purple!” Her favorite is grape. Sitting next to Morgan, Dallas (just a baby) was eating a blade of grass. Suddenly, “Bleck! Uck! Ack!” Gavin yelled...

Soggy By: Jodie A. Parsley (208) 305-5230 poetuvgrace@hotmail.com Suzie at First Suzie couldn’t concentrate on a damn thing because her skin is melting. As simply as a soft ice cream oozes down a cake cone in August. She’d had days before where she couldn’t recognize her reflection in the medicine cabinet mirror. What she saw had little to do with what was: her eyes growing and then shrinking, her cheeks puffing out from rapidly expanding fat calls, her uneven eyebrows drawing arrows to hair ...

Short Story / Joy Ride

Joy Ride By: Jodie A. Parsley poetuvgrace@hotmail.com Magnolia disburses her interpretations of life in a series of sighs, blinks, and knowing grins. Simple breathers are companionable. Those who require pauses from Seeing. And wisecrackers. Even now, as the late-autumn wind cuts thru pre-spring’s persistent sun, as she peeks between the blinds of her window at the sound of silenced cars, even now she’s hungry and can’t find her keys. Food is overrated. And so (apparently) is being grounded t...

Separate your Self from yourself for a moment and browse your form. Are you at peace today? Do you feel safe? Are you certain of where you are when your feet touch the ground (if your feet touch the ground)? Now commit to Seeing. Is anyone looking at you? Is anyone near you at all? Do you want them to be? If they arent and you do, what cant you do? If they are and you dont, what cant you do? (Store that list of cants in your mind. Youll need it for later. For later when you find yourself not ...

"A nation failing it’s children, failing it’s citizens," --your "it's" should say "its". it's= it is. You misspelled "separate". I really like this. It's powerful and has a driving beat to it. Your word choices are strong: "America, when will you be good? When will you see all the graves you’ve caused? When will you be worthy of your citizens? Did we really make this country all that it has become? A nation failing it’s children, failing it’s citizens, failing the world we supposedly lead." B...
I enjoy the chant-like quality to this poem. There are hidden surprises in your words...you don't always say what is expected and I like that, too. For example, "I’ll make your BREATH skip a beat". I can hear this poem aloud when I read it silently. Have you read this aloud before? One day, my eyes will speak volumes For his longing ear One day, my eyes will speak volumes That he only hears One day, my eyes will speak volumes Forget not these words One day, my eyes will speak volumes My eyes ...
Poetry / Summer Ride
There are many attractive phrases in this poem. I like them because they're simple, yet evoke feeling and imagery. "The muse unbuttoned my shirt as I rode through suburbia." "The bugs were marksmen and shot me in the tongue" "and admired her soft hips and strong thighs." Lines like these are also appealing because of their sound, and rhythm. I'd work on more of a fluid transition between this style and the other, where you break into moments such as "I rode a long way that day and never did f...

It's amusing how this dialogue goes full circle. Fitting with the whole British thing. If this were to be played, is the cow a person in a cow suit? Or...a person who's referred to as a cow :) Wouldn't that be a twist?! I'm sure I don't need to tell you that some punctuation is missing. I'm curious about a description of the Cow Cancer Ward. Is it like a human doctor's office, or is it a barn-like structure? I guess what all my questions are implying is that I'm buying into the world. I want ...
