Dear editor, “The man was barely noticed as he penetrated the glistening, white shroud that coverd the town square; Size ten feet in size eleven boots leaving craggy craters in their wake.” Who is this man who invades a quiet New England town? His motives are unclear and the town of Redfield is unprepared for events that will catapult them into a vicious battle between good and evil. The characters in the story are small town Americans. Jo Sutton and Gert Gibbons are friends and a...

Here is the deal, the main thing, the crux of it all, the thing that takes center stage. My Jesus hanging on a cross made of aluminum, bending and whining from the weight of bleeding wrists. He hangs there, buckling at the waist, as I try to write the verse that will straighten the cross, clot the flow of blood, shock the heart into a regular rhythm and divert tears into a prickly spray that will put out the fire that burns the tips of my fingers and leave ashen stains upon parchment; like fi...

Chapter One Christmas was in full bloom and the fragrance intoxicated everyone. Kids scurried through aisles and dodged street traffic, side by side with the well-heeled and those without souls. Beggars' smiles are widened in expectation, as shoppers with visions of It's a Wonderful Life dancing in their heads dropped money into their cups and jars. Some of the homeless peered longingly through shop windows and the street children sang Christmas carols and made wish lists. Jo and Gert sit sip...

I have tried for years to write the story to tell it like a tale. Because all that remains is the tail of the monster Spiked and thrashing and the mouth, full of pointed, dripping teeth, widened to a ghoulish grin exhaling fetid breath. Do you want a smoke with your bath? No thanks. I’ve locked the doors so no one will know You’re smokin’ in the tub My naked body soaked in suds shrivels Where’s mom and Aunty Em? Gone out shoppin’ girlie, won’t be back for h...

This poem is emotionally charged and very moving. The word choices , the verbs especially, give the piece action. For example, 'circle and circle around the walls', says so much, creates an image that gives a sense of confusion, urgency, isolation and marking them is a sign of trying to find a place that is the narrator's own.'run so much' tells me that wherever one goes you can't escape your life. The heart 'cradled in hope' is a relief because it tells me the narrator has not given up. Whoev...
Poetry / I Sea
This is a poem filled with vivid imagery, the pace is perfect-like the ocean waves. Some of the lines I especially liked are: The noise of a thousand wind-chimes A tug-of-war between the Gods An Orange cloak when sunset lit My favorite place to go to rejuvenate is by the sea so this piece spoke to me in a warm place. Keep up the good work:) Peace Tina
Carl Meathammer-great name:) pouring himself out of college, before his hairline began its cowardly retreat and when his penchant for Jim Beam had already passed through infancy and now walked instead of crawled-I love this! wormlike underbellies flecked with neon brightness-wonderful imagery swaying like a mannequin caught in a cross-breeze-hysterical Okay, this is a hoot! I was hooked from the title and couldn't take my eyes off the words until the end. You have a gift for story telling. So...
